98.5 A4 Avant B5 2.8 _ Alternator Replacement PLS Help
Hey Community.
Just recently had my waterpump-timing belt replaced (400 Miles Ago) and two days ago the battery Warning light came on and my car dropped down in voltage. Made it home (whew) and put the battery on a charger. Started back up and it was back to normal... until I drove, then same thing.
Anyway... I bought an alternator and am good on getting the car into service position, I just can't for the life of me find a DIY writeup on the 2.8 B5.
Gonna get started on this today. Could anyone pass my way any torque specs for the alternator bolts, serpentine belt removal instructions, and any other useful specifications, a DIY writeup, observational anecdotes, funny jokes (to keep me smiling) ?
I will try and mock a DIY with photos if there are none.
Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks!

If I'm not mistaken, 90% of this job is getting into the service position. Then you have access to the alternator and you can just start winding the bolts out.
If you can get into the service position I think you're pretty much set.

Thank you. That has helped some. The top bolt on the Alternator (6mm Allen) - Do you recall whether I have to have a wrench in the back to hold a nut? (feels like it is rotating freely) if so, what size is socket is that back nut?
Thanks a lot. Almost finished.

I never took the alternator off, but I did take the starter out, and I don't even remember if THAT had a nut in the back. Can you reach back and feel? Or stick a power drill on there and go for 30 seconds, if it's not out, you've got a nut back there holding it in.
Dunno about the torque specs either sorry.
Best of luck!
