98 a4 2.8 quattro a/c delete???
What (if any) would the repercussions be if I was to remove the whole a/c system? I pulled the motor shortly after I got it a year ago and never recharged the system and actually hadn't had the need to use it. I read that the belt may rub something on the 12v 2.8 and may change the load on other components but I haven't found anything on the 30v other than I would obviously need a shorter belt serp belt (6PK1725) or any 6 rib 69.5" belt please correct me if I am wrong and just "rip" it all out and a possible 3 to 5hp gain. It's basically dead weight right now. Any info or diy's would be great. I know its a pretty straight forward removal process and well within my skill set to do so no question there. Removing the dashboard probably won't happen for awhile and it's a HUGE PITA! Maybe I can do a DIY for this for future reference. TIA. Cheers! A sunroof and 4 windows is good enough for me and a heater because it gets ridiculously COLD in iowa!

You do know that with the AC off (and it will never be one with no R34 in it) that the AC clutch is disengaged and it costs you no HP don't you?
Either way its dead weight and I'm looking at rebuilding the heads and doing the timing belt, water pump, thermostat all that fun stuff. So it will be almost torn completely apart. I would like to drop as much weight as I can. I am just curious if it would cause any problems that I have seen mentioned. Plus it's a few extra bucks if I can sell it. It's all still in good condition and would like to convert the fan and what not and it was mentioned to be a possible hp gain and I also read that audi's default for the a/c is on. I will look more into it when the time comes. Just seeing what info I can gather in the meantime. Cheers!
As others have pointed out, I doubt you'll notice any difference...
You'll have to figure out a different belt routing, but no other repercussions. I wouldn't bother pulling the dash. Pull the lines off of the firewall and fabricate a plate to cover the holes. Everything else forward of the firewall can be removed.
