Default 98 B5 boost+APR Questons

Hey guys, I picked up this Quattro a few months ago and have a couple questions. The guy I bought it from said there was an APR chip installed and I was wondering how I can confirm that. I took out the computer and saw no APR markings anywhere. I attached a couple pics of the computer so you can take a look. There is a FORGE diverter valve, and Carbonio intake. Also has some 18" ADR wheels and H&R lowering springs. Autometer boost gauge, VIS racing carbon fiber hood and deck lid. My second question is how much boost should I be pushing? I can only get the turbo to peak at 14PSI and it drops to about 8-10 at 6K. I heard I should be somewhere around 20PSI with my tune. Thanks for any help!

Stock boost is 7-8psi, so if you're seeing 14psi it's definitely chipped. As for which chip you actually have, without knowing it's hard to say. HOWEVER, you shouldn't expect 20psi. My GIAC chip peaks at 18psi according to my boost gauge and holds at about 16psi until the RPMs increase enough for boost to drop.

14.5psi is 1bar, and from my understanding many chips aim to hit 1bar.

Thanks for the input

Does anyone have any first hand experience with the APR tune? If so, what kind of boost numbers were you seeing and did your computer piggyback look similar to mine? Thanks!

I have a 99 AEB, same engine code as you as well as the same APR tune.. other mods are in my sig, but i didnt get to see my ECU after it was chipped as i did it through my mechanic at Fast Addiction in Vermont.. so when it came back in he put it in my car.. but i know mine had to be sautered in like yours.. and i thought that it had some APR markings on it but maybe not.. at any rate, i peak between 15-17psi, usually on the 15-16 side of things and it holds around 12 or so til i shift which is hardly ever at 6k.. that tune sounds about right..

You wouldn't know visually that you have an APR chip. If you push/hold the cruise control button for like 10 seconds or so, the Check Engine Light should blink once every few seconds. It should do so about 4 times and then blink twice every few seconds. Depending on when you "let go" of the cruise control button is where you set the chip at. 1 blink = stock, 2 blinks = 93 octane chipped mode for me. You can have 4 profiles in total.

My chip peaks around 19 psi. But this varies on what gear I am using. I.e. - each gear has a different psi peak at a certain rpm.

Although I have a 2001, my wife (who bought the car new), says that a chip was soldered in and not "flashed".

I don't know what chip is in my car either, but I peak around 17psi and hold at 15psi to about 5,000 rpm before dropping off.

I'm having this sort of problem with my giac chip i bought. I cant seem to boost any higher than 12 psi and was told that it was a giac x chip. I opened it up and saw that it was there and the turbo does spool up faster and smoother but I'm having the same issue of seeing relatively low boost numbers.
