Default 99 a4 1.8t REPAIRS HELP!!!!

Ok so i have a 1999 a4 1.8t quattro that has 106k. I have done all the major services and kept my oil changed with full synthetic. So i started to notice some uneven tire ware, so i took it to the dealer and they said my front right control arm and front right tie rod end are bad and need replacing. They said it would be in the $500 range. They then said since the tires are uneven that i need to replace all 4 tires or i could blow out my tranny because its a quattro. Is this true or am i getting suckered?
Thanks!

Tire wear would need to be drastic to damage your drivetrain. Actually, you'd need to have a different size tire to make that much ofa difference. If the tire is that bad, at least put 2 new ones on the front.
Get the whole front end control arm kit for less than $350 at FCP Groton (ebay seller) and do it yourself and have a local shop do thealignment. Research control arm threads here, there's lots of good info in some of them.
