Default 99 Audi A4 1.8t quattro sputtering

I have a 99 audi a4 1.8t quattro with 212k on it and the car has been great up until I tried to leave work today. It ran fine this morning on the way to work but when I tried to leave. The car started but it sputters out when I touch the gas. I can only bring the engine up to about 1,100 rpm (not much higher than idle) There is a strong odor of gas and a little black smoke out the exhaust so I know it's a fuel problem. It's not throwing any codes at all and hasn't in a long time so I don't know where to start. Any tips on where to start would be greatly appreciated!

From what you have described, sounds like you popped a hose either from the throttle body, intercooler or off the turbo. The same happened to mine a while back. It would idle fine, as soon as you rev it it’ll splutter and go no more than just above 1.2k or so. Have a look around the hoses to see if any have come undone.

Default Problem fixed!

So after a few days of pulling my hair out and throwing random parts at my car I found the problem. It was a bad MAF sensor which I probably should have checked first. Thank for the help
