Default 99 Audi A4

Folks- Im new to the Audi world. Im looking at buying a 99 Audi A4 all- wheel drive 1.8T automatic with 80,000 miles on it. Interior is in great shape, nothing sticks out in the engine bay. My question is does 80,000 miles sound like alot and what does a pretty well maintained 1.8T engine generally die at? Thank you and I know alot of other factors can play into this.....

AN Audi can go for a long time if properly maintained. The point there is to properly maintain it - you have to keep up "preventative" maintenance on an Audi.

If the owner was into that, then the car will most likely be in great shape. I have 112K miles on mine. Runs fine except for a squeaky control arm that I have to replace. 80K sounds about right for a 99.

Ask to see if the timing belt/tensioner has been changed. Thats a $700-$1000 job and that car is at the point where it has to be done.

Thanks Brrman - I kinda figured that an Audi can tick for awhile - just wanted to get expert opinions

What signs would I look for if a timing belt needed to be replaced????

you don't look for signs of it - you just do it before something goes terribly wrong.

If it hasn't been changed it needs to be by now.
