99A4 1.8T 150k Mi - Dealer says Turbo dead - was fine before...
I did research on Franknturbo some time ago... I too question the quality. I'd rather go with a hammer file K04 and enjoy the reliablility, but pricewise it does get close to a GTRS elim. Frankenturbo does seem like a bargain, but with turbos, you often get what you pay for. Can anyone attest to its durability?
Good thing FrankenTurbo offers a 1 year warranty
and after that replacement turbos are still cheaper. The owner (I think is his title) Doug is great with customer service - he has responded to my emails very fast, and is pretty active on some forums.

i do seem to recall the dealer saying that a new factory turbo would get me a 2 year warranty, and obviously the labor is warrantied by the dealer service shop.
from what i can tell, aftermarket turbos, like frankenturbo, or an even apr stage 3, have a shorter warranty. you mention 1 year on the frankenturbo. apr does not list their warranty on the website: http://www.goapr.com/support/terms.html
i can't see any type of warranty on the many types of k04 turbo's (borg warner, etc.)
is the typical warranty period on an aftermarket 1 year? and a harder question...how many years/mileage do people typically get out of their turbos?
I guess that second question could heavily depend on driving habits, who did the install, other car issues, etc. Anyway, I figure I would ask...
thanks again guys for all your help and constructive discussion. i've read the newbie faq and it was very helpful on turbos as well: https://www.audiforums.com/forum/audi-a4-8/newbie-guide-version-2-a-80968/
