Default A4 1998 2.8 Quattro automatic cold start problem

I have had my Audi since it was new and have 95,000 miles on it, no fault codes and no check engine light. My problem is that when the car's engine is cold, (not driven for 2 to 3 hours), it takes about 5 to 7 seconds of cranking to start it. After the engine has been turning over for a minute, when turned off, it starts right up. I am concerned about the additional stress on my battery and starter. I have been told it can be anything from a temperature sensor to the fuel pump or fuel filter. I have had all the routine maintenance done up through and including 75,000 miles at the local Audi dealer. My dealer said to live with it; it would cost too much to troubleshoot and fix.
Does anyone have any ideas on what I could try to narrow the problem down?
Thank you in advance for any help.

The dealer didn't offer to narrow it down? They could have easily made a few floorplan payments while trying. Maybe they like you.

You could rule out the delivery system with some fuel pressure checks < Adapter required.

Engine running:
With the FPR (regulator) connected - 46-55psi
FPR vacumn control line disconnected - 55-61psi

Leak down test - Engine off for 10 mins - 32-44psi

A fuel pressure reading while the engine is cold during start might be revealing. The fuel pump relay is commanded by the engine ECU. ECU requirement is RPM signal.

Electrical/Sensor issues - VAG COM measuring block readings of the ECU and may guide you to the troublemaker on your own.

No codes or CEL?

sounds like the coolant temperature sensor needs to be replaced.

Cant tell for sure untill you get it scanned. Go to autozone and get it scanned for free.
