With a stock B5 bumper it might be a little too long since that is most likely a 22" long core. So it might be a very tight fit that long and 2.5" thick.

Mike, did you try and find another builder for a B5 fmic kit or have plans to do so? Obviously the market is still there for a nice $500 kit because I see these threads everyday. I still haven't bought one yet, sooo you'd be even more the man if you can make it happen!

No I haven't. There are some FMIC's out there that are around $200-$300. Basically could build a kit off of one of those with custom pipes just for that FMIC. That way people can just buy the FMIC and then buy the Kit(pipes, hoses, clamps, mounting bracket) for their year A4.

Just throwing another +1 to a $500 IC kit for the B5.

Fact is that most good FMIC cores will have less then 1psi of pressure drop even on a K03.

My car was used for R&D/testing for the Evoms dbw B5 FMIC kit way back in 2001. I saw no big pressure drop and even gained power because the ecu wasn't pulling back as much timing even during a 1 gear pull.

So a FMIC is very helpful even with a K03.

The key is to get the correct size FMIC for the size turbo being used, they are rated by HP. Problem is too many people go and buy cores that are good for 600-700hp when they aren't even making 400hp.
I agree with all that. There have been more than a few members in the past who have complained about more than 1psi drop with the "cheap diy" ebay style fmic that we are talking about. I think that any fmic is going to have a larger core than stock. So there is more volume to fill up and pass through before it reaches the manifold right? Does this not mean that manifold pressure will take longer (lag) to build?

If I may also add, that you should use T-clamps when connecting your couplers. I had to find out the hard way that the clamps you can buy from autozone don't hold up to high boost pressures, or not for long atleast. Just my .02
