you referring to the center arm rest that always rips or something different? I've popped mine out a couple times with the intention of re-covering it, but never did get around to actually doing it. If you gently squeeze the two arms together that hold the lid to the lower portion, you can wiggle it to one side and it pops right out.

The lid on my 1996 is broken (the rear plastic tabs), so I am looking for a used lid (dark grey cloth).

2 weeks ago, I took the entire center console and center dash out.

I can send you the Bentley printouts (for my model; shouldn't be different for yours).

Off memory:
Starts with rear ashtray removal. 3 bolts (13mm).
Then get the hand brake boot out (took a bit of stretching)
Take the rubber liners out of the center console trays.
Take the 'phone cover' out.
Underneath is another bolt. 13mm also?
Front of the center console has 2 screws connector to shifter plastic piece (side of tunnel). Remove the plastic caps, remove the 2 bolts (not sure if philips head or 10mm or 8mm).
I think there was a wire to discounnect (ashtray?)

Then the hole assembly comes out.

Mine is 'dark grey', cloth.
Interior is black, so black (cloth or leather, not sure what variations are out there) would also work.
