anyone else havet hsi problem, i got a 1996 a4 12v, whenever i engine brake, i can hear the car making poping noises, the only known code i have is a EGR code that comes and goes, i just replaced my cats last year and it quieted down a bit but before that i had burned out cats and i could clearing see flames comeing out at night.

 

it is 100% normal all 12v do this

my 1.8t shoots flames all the time

 

That means some leaking fuel is igniting inside your intake manifold. Check your spark timing; as you may be misfiring while running lean.

Travis, care to post up a video? I'm not so sure I believe you. If you're afterfiring, you have a problem with your DV or your exhaust.

i dont have a video..and by ll the time i mean like on most nights when i am on low boost, and im tuned for a higher than my low boost, im running rich while in low boost, and i run atmospheric, but i also have a striaght pipe exhaust..i really dont care too much, but ill try and get a video

 

really my old 12 v didnt do that but then again that car had new everything.
