Default a4 vs a6

Hello A4 people, I drive A6's and have for the last year, problem is I can no longer afford the fuel my 4.2 likes to consume, about $75.00 a wk.
So I am seriously thinking about trading to an older ( 98-2001) a4 4cyl. man. shift turbo, and have a few questions. In all the A4 ads I see I never see any mention of a sports pkg. or perhaps a larger turbo?
are these engines as reliable as there V6 and V8 engines
are they an interferance engine? (do the valves occupy the same space if the timming belt brakes)?
Also, does the wagon or avant get about the same MPG as the sedan?
I appreciate any input thanks BENG

There is definitely a sport package available to the A4. I would know because I have it.

yes there is a sports package
or perhaps a larger turbo?
not from the factory but you can get ones pretty easy
are these engines as reliable as there V6 and V8 engines
it is regarded as slightly less reliable then the V6 but it is still a reliable engine
are they an interferance engine? (do the valves occupy the same space if the timming belt brakes)?
yes both the I4 and the V6 in the A4's are interference engines
Also, does the wagon or avant get about the same MPG as the sedan?
pretty much sure they do
I appreciate any input thanks BENG

What does the sport pkg. entail?
I assume stiffer, maybe lower ride, sports seats and trim? is this correct?
Are they rare? I don't seem to find any for sale! THANKS BENG

17" rims and sport suspension is basically all the sport is. you've probably seen them and not even noticed it was a sport version.

What does the sport pkg. entail?
specifically sport rims, stiffer struts, small drop in ride height, bigger swaybars, in older A4's, different steering wheel, later models acutaly have a more differently styled interior and seats I think.

it was only a $750 option according to my sticker tag..there are defentally alot more regular A4's but I wouldn't call them rare, people like to hang on to them more I suppose.
