Arrow Advice on my caliper DIY

Hey guys

Well, next weekend I will be painting my calipers, yes the stock B5 A4 calipers, and I know what I want to do but not exactly how. Both me and my buddy will be doing it to each of our A4's, so it will be a long *** day. I have a few questions first, and I hope you guys can help me with your experience on this. Also, add any tips in the procedure as well or any precautions. We are going to remove the calipers from the car, so we are going to have to breed the brake lines, right?

1 - My buddy bought hi-temp red engine paint (spray-can), is this ok? Or should I buy duplicolor spray-on caliper paint?

2 - Where can I find decals and which ones should I get? I checked eBay and searched ALLLLL Over AZ and didnt find much other than a bunch of old ebay listings. Websites? Also, which decal should I get? the rings, "AUDI", or a / / /// sport logo?

3 - Should I use clear coat on top of the paint and decal? Also, any tips when painting?

I hope you guys can help and please add any pics, links, or advice on caliper painting. I'll be sure to post pics next week after the calipers are painted, my 18" B5 RS4's are mounted, my magnaflow is installed, and my windows are tinted. I know, next week will be big for me as I am finally removing that "stock" look from my 2001.

Here are the DIY's I will be using:

I bought the paint on stuff, it came with cleaner and a brush...super simple job...I never used spray on, cuz I didn't want to worry about overspray...

as for decals, go to eBay, pick your favorites...

I painted mine black, I didn't want to draw attention to stock brakes...

gl!

Don't use the spray. the time you'll spend taping stuff off won't be worth it. Just get the duplicolor kit.

i used high temp engine paint from a spray can and got a brush. i sprayed into the cap and then dipped the brush in and then applied. i think engine paint is cheaper so you can do it that way. make sure to use a wired brush on the caliper to get rid of as many little chips as you can.

ya ya, i know all of that, and i wont have to worry about overspray because I will be taking off the calipers and then painting them in the garage OFF THE CAR, but is the dulipcolor kit that you, THE BISHOP, have a brush on or spray on?

i used the duplicolor black caliper spray for the rotor hubs (new rotors) and the duplicolor caliper kit in black (cleaner and brush on paint) for the calipers. after 6 months, the spray has faded and chipped in some places on the rotor hubs. the brush on paint which was much thicker and glossier has held up much better and still looks great when cleaned. it was also very easy to apply to the calipers so def go with the brush on

ok, i have heard both the spray and brush are better, so which is it? which holds up the longest and which is the best looking after a few months?

Mine after I did them. You notice the overspray... lol.
But it looks nearly the same after 3 years, just a little faded on one corner. I used the high temp spray.

i think both are the same. you just need to put multiple layers on. high temp clearcoat def helps too.
