Aftemarket Accumulator Drier?

Aftemarket Accumulator Drier?
I'm repairing front end damage on my 99.5 A4 1.8TQ.
The radiator and a/c condenser were both punctured. I didn't realize I should have plugged the lines after removing the condenser.
Its been sitting, open to the atmosphere while I source parts.
So I realize now I need to replace the drier/accumulator.
Has anyone had experience with an aftemarket accumulator?
Or know enough about air conditioning systems to comment?
I'm borrowing a vacuum and manifold kit from autozone, and they sell a aftermarket unit.
It would seem to me that if the connections fit, it shouldn't be a problem. From what I gather, its just full of crystals that soak up any moisture in the system. Nothing proprietary or high tech.
But, I'd really feel better if I could hear that from someone that knows something about ac.
Thanks!
