Default AfterMarket Radio Question..

Hey yall,
Long story short, when I bought the car.. I had the audi radio replaced ASAP with an aftermarket iphone/ ipod radio..

My issue is; the only way the arftermarket radio can be turned on, is if I turn the key in the ignition Upwards.. thus powering the whole car, and draining my battery at a quicker pace (cuz not too long ago, I was making out with this girl in the car for more then 3 hours, and when I try to ignite the car.. Boom, no Power and had to call CAA (or AAA in the US). I've repalced the battery since by precaution.

My question; Was there something done wrong in the installation, or does the Audi radio have to be turned on the same way? OR, once they key is in the ignition, can it go Downwards like my dad's car[?] (which enables him to turn on the radio).

Yes, you're doing something wrong... by having the radio on for 3 hours with the car off. Seriously. If you really want to do that then get a separate battery. Unless you're running the headlights or something, the rest of the car isn't going to use much power compared to the radio.

hur hur, my radio killed my battery but I think my car is at fault guyz

oki, but let's say you want to clean your car and use the radio to listen to the music..
shouldn't the car be able to sustain at least 2hours+ of radio use without the battery dying?
I can't use the old radio as a "control subject", since I had it replaced on the same day I bought this car..

You think the individual who installed the aftermarket radio didn't do it right?
Anyway, can a stock radio be turned on without they key in the ignition? Or does the Ignition key go downwards like on other cars [or towards half-upwards?
Also, I know some of you guys have aftermarket radios; are you guys able to turn on the radio without moving the ignition key almost completely Upwards..

Anyway, it doesn't make sense, cuz all the cars I've incountered in the past could have the radio On without turning the key Upwards, and when I would hang out with some friends with their cars, their speakers were pumping a lot of decibels for hours without the battery dying.

The real problem here is obviously the fact that you were making out with the girl for 3 hours. Did you not move onto bigger and better things?!

On my 2000 factory radio (pending to be changed by a DD in dash nav aftermarket) the radio turns off the second you take the key off the "run" or "on" position. I'm goign to be looking to run a wire from my ignition to the aftermarket red wire and make sure the radio can be turned on with just the first click. Its teh only retarded thing i feel Audi did, they did not put a "acc" click on teh ignition and allow the radio to be turned on independently

You see, Nick, I like to pick up girls on the rebound from a
disappointing relationship. They're more vulnerable - in much more need of solace.
And they're fairly open to suggestion. And I use that to **** them some place fairly uncomfortable.

^^LMAO That's like going to an abortion clinic to pick up women cause you know they put out.... Seriously, if you want to run your radio for 3 hours, just turn the car on once in a while so it doesn't die. It's cheaper than buying a new battery

ummmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm..........

factory radio should not need the key to be inserted at all. Remove the key, the radio shuts off, then push the power button off, then push it on. Your radio should work. Will turn off on its own after xx minutes..forgot how long, but fairly long.

REALLY........well i guess i will have to try that one....actually never thought of it. I mean really, why should I have to press to turn "off" and then press again to turn on??? Some german quirk i guess............
