Aftermarket Subwoofer
Hey, it doesn't bother me right now, but I was thinking that sometime in the future I may want to install a subwoofer I took out of a different vehicle. Does anyone know how I would even go about this? The car is stock from what I can tell (third owner).
you will need a few things an amp to power the sub.. all the wiring for the amp (power wire/ fuse, ground wire, rca's , remote wire, and speaker wire .. a line converter for the rca's to go into so it is compatable with the stock stereo..
Well, I have the stock CC Delta Head Unit in the '96 A4, and I have an alpine amp and bazooka tube sub I want to put in. Is all the wiring accessible from the truck with the disc changer? I don't know, I'm absolutely new at this and a friend of mine who is good with stereos and stuff was confused as hell.
well either way you can go to best buy or something like that and ask for a line converter.. it doesn't matter what radio you have (as in which stock radio) b/c all you do is splice into the speaker wires and it has RCA outputs on the other side..
i would reccomend getting an amp wiring kit, go to walmart (they are actually decent quality and have everything u need for cheap!) and get a kit that has the 4ga wire as that should be big enough wire to handle the power you will be putting out.. DON'T GET A CAPACITOR! they don't help and are a waste of money.. it is simple for what you need to do to hook it up..
you know what to do for the rca inputs..
as for power wire.. run it off ur battery and fuse it within atleast a foot of the battery.. then run it through the firewall (there is a gromet on the passenger side i was about to get 2 pieces of 1/0 through) it helps if u use a clotheshanger to see where it comes out and to feed the wire through..
then for the ground wire you find a bolt that is in the metal part of the car (i found one almost near the rear deck under it) and ground your wire there u want that as short as possible..
next for your remote wire (this turns the amp on) you will have to go back behind the radio and will have to look up the diagram online to find out which wire it is (acc works as well)
and then u tune and play! if you have any more questions i will be happy to help!
