Default alarm codes

2001-A4-1.8T-quattro

My service light came on the other day. A friend of mine has the vag-com software that allows you to diagnose the problem off a lap top. The registered fault read as follows"Central Locking Pump run time exceeded (likely leak)". What the hell is this? Is this something that would require an AUDI service call?

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Thanks

no, not neccessarily. I have had the same one. Just clear the code and check back in a few weeks to see if it happens again. If it does, then you may need to replace your locking pump.

what is a locking pump? What does it do? Is it expensive to replace?

You'll notice that your locks do not lock electrically like most cars. There is a pump that creates a vacuum and pulls the locking mechanism closed. As far as cost goes, youwill need to call the dealer andask for a price. It could be your pump, or it could bea leak somewhere in the system. I wouln't worry about it much. If you doors lock and you see no problems other thanthe code once in a while, whocares. As far as a service light, you mean the yellow check engine light?? The locking system shoulnt set off this light, at least it doesn't on mine.

Thanks Jestnomen.

The light that comes on is the "service" indicator on the dash. Not the yellow check engine light. The "service" light pops on when I put the car in drive, but then turns off. It does not stay on while the car is driving.

I have noticed nothing strange about the operation of the locks, so I might just let it go until the locks start to act up.
