Default to all the audi fanatics out there

this issue is really going to test the great and knowledged.
the other day i was driving up to the beach when my transmission started to leak which caused alot of smoke and i started to slip inbetween gears, surely after a while the car wouldnt budge.
i had it towed back to my mechanic which filled it up with new thicker transmission oil and said i could drive it back home and bring it back in about a week and half when he has space to work on it.
i personally think that it is just a large leak with some worn clutches... does any1 know what this would be or has had this happened to you, and does any1 know of any prices of possible outcomes

my baby is a audi a4 98 b5 2.4ltr v6 with 220k on the clock

sounds to me like the tranny took a dump. with 220k on it and driving it to the point of not moving was not exactly the best idea, nor was adding 'a thicker transmission oil' warm up your credit card, and be glad that you had an auto make it to 220K. it will be interesting to see how you make out

yeah sounds like you may need a new tranny... is it an auto or manual? im not sure if theres much of a difference in price between the 2 but i can tell you the manual is around 3000 bucks (with labor). i cracked my transmission casing and broke some teeth so what im going to do is get a tranny from ebay (probably around $1000) and put it in myself. so if you have the know how you could always do that.

and did you mean 2.8 v6?because the 98 a4 came in a 2.8 v6 and a 1.8t incase you wanna change that on the siggy

chanced are something very expensive broke in your tranny, in my experience which i just fixed... the oil pump seized and since i saw smoke i STOPPED and had it towed, unfortunatley for me, the damage had been done and to replace the pump was expensive in itself, and as its generally not a serviceable part, you need to get a brand new one. having said that, your clutch packs also seem to have been damaged as it wouldnt move, aside from not having fluid. Your going to need a new transmission $XXXX youll have to price it out. and im guessing since you dont know your engine size, your prolly dont know how to drive a stick... and im going out on a limb ( well, not really ) but you were driving an automatic weren't you?

ok, so if its a euro car, and it is a 2.4 in fact, 200k would in KM in MILES, right? putting that odometer at just over 124K miles? right?

anyway, the fact of the matter is, you need a new transmission.

hey guys, to answer your questions it is an auto, well tiptronic and it is a 2.4 v6... i have been told by my mechanic that the serial of my car is a fkn hard to find and majority of the parts i need would have to be imported straight from europe which isnt doing me any good. i've just had the car towed to mechanic so i will soon know how hard my credit card will be getting a thrashing
im also in australia so it is 220kms not miles
