Its as easy as removing the belt and unbolting it, should be pretty straight forward.

I dunno , that sounds pretty bad. I would just go to mechanic , but with all constant repairs im doing i might as well start learning it myself. And start from timing belt sounds kinda harsh. If somebody had like step by step instruction that would be helpfull.

Just tackle it bro. My rookie year it took me 5.5 hours to do. Second A4 I did, it went by in 20 mins.

I'm not aware of any DIY's. Pick up a Haynes manual and it'll give you hints.

Biggest tip: take off the fan. Just hold it with a wrench and unbolt it so you can push it forward enough to get the longer support bolt for the alternator. Besides that, just take off the coolant hose and make sure you replace whatever antifreeze you lose. EZ.

you're not taking the timing belt off, just the alternator belt. it's not going to affect your engine timing at all. just go at it but have a second car to go to the parts store because you'll forget something you needed to buy lol

Oh yeah you're not touching the timing belt, you just need to remove the tensioner on the serpintine belt and slip it off the alternator. Let the belt hang and then tackle the alternator, it shouldn't be that hard at all. Now an alternator on an S4 4.2L..............
