Question Anyone? Anyone? Bueller?

Good morning!

I'm driving to work yesterday, CEL comes on. So I go to AutoZone after work to get scanned and cleared, P0401-EGR Valve

So I did some poking around and learn that this is the Exhaust Gas Recirculation Valve. Forgive my ignorance but wtf is that and what does it do?

The guy was nice enough to clear the code and I've driven a solid 50 miles since then and no CEL. Any ideas or advice?

EGR valve - most useless piece eva!!

all it does is recycle some of the exhaust gas, it isn't needed it just helps with better emissions and will give you slightly better gas millage, but not having it working will not harm your car and it's a relatively expensive part.

I looked into it, but I'm not gonna spend that much on it to fix it when I don't have to.

Ok thanks man. =) So you think if the CEL doesn't come back I should just ignore it?

well I get mine checked every so often to make sure I don't have anything new, but yeah usually I just ignore it knowing that that is now the only issue (well besides my cats) that I have engine wise now
