I installed them in my stock projectors. Not as good as factory HIDs, as far as cut off, but putting them in reflector headlights is a bad idea.

I can tell you my 55w 6,000K are brighter than my '09 Maxima with stock HID.

haha, 55w 6k hid in reflector headlights = melting ur housings...

most 55w hids are appliable to stock projector housings or fog lights...
as this diagram states, most H3 55w hid can fit to fog lights of some Audi models

I can't seem to find any aftermarket Xenon headlamp kits for the B5 that are not just bulb/ballast replacements to put into the reflector housing.

I want brighter lights without blinding other drivers.

Aren't there full xenon headlamp replacement kits out there somewhere? I'm usually pretty handy with google, but the only ones I can seem to find are the cheap bulb/ballast kits.

DDM 55w in my car since April '09 and not a single problem with them, one of my favorite mods that I've done.

dude, it is H9 hid bulbs for your Quattro reflector housing to replace the stock halongen bulbs... most aftermarket hid kit contains just bulbs and ballasts and connenting wires (that is so-called plug-and-play hid) while some contains one more relay harness to hook up the hid ballast and make it work steadily...

so you'd better choose VVME relay harness H9 hid kit for your reflector housing to prevent the case of incompatible bulbs to ur stock lights(incompatible bulbs will flicker for some seconds every time when u start up )

B5s use H7 bulbs for halogens, not H9. if yours came stock with HIDs then they're D2S

Yes, my stock bulbs are H7's.

Is it possible to do the DDM 55w mod without blinding other drivers? Is it the reflector housing itself that's the problem?

Bradtyler02 seems to think it's a bad idea, unless I've misunderstood him.

The housing is the problem, but your sig says 99.5 so if thats true you should have the 1 piece headlights and will have no problem running a DDM kit. If have 2 piece your A4 isn't 99.5, but you can adapt a set to work in place of the old 2 piece.

pretty sure there's a write up here www.audidiy.com

My headlamps are whatever is stock on the 99.5. They look identical to the ones in the pic below. Furthermore, I'm pretty sure they are one-piece units. So in that case, I don't have reflector housings, I have.....HID housings? Or is there another name for them?

No worries, we all started somewhere. You have 1 piece projectors, you'd be ok to run the 55w DDM kit, I do and everything works as it should.
