???Auto to manual???
I have a 2000 audi a4 1.8TQ Tip... This is my first car and as far as im concerned my only car!!! for now anyway... I plan to keep it and make it exactly the way i want it... Once something goes bad I just mod. it. With every mod i do i think about the piece of S*&% auto trans... (Actually its not a piece at all its a great design but I would gang bang on bacon for a manual, literally!!) And everytime i think about doing a swap.. I know its going to be alot of work, alot of unnecessary work but it all would be worth it too me...
Has anyone done this?
What does the work consist of?? I have a general idea but i would love a painted picture!!
Any input is appreciated...

It will cost more and take way more time than just trading in the car for a manual model. The biggest problem is the A4 has a differnt crank for the auto and manual, so you would have to swap motors or atleast cranks for the swap. So either sell it or learn to love a tip
wow they use a different crank? that sucks. im about to do it on my altima and it requires less than $1000 in parts and about a weekend for two people. ~15-20 people have done it on the nissan board i visit.
even on that board you get people who say its not worth the time/money/effort/etc. however, given the additional work required for the audi, and considering audi parts cost way more than nissan parts, i would not bother with it. just to give you an idea, this is a list of the parts it requied for my altima: manual tranny, manaul axles, clutch, clutch pedal, clutch master cylinder, slave cylinder, hydraulic lines from master cylinder to slave cylinder, shifter, shifter holder, shifter linkage, rear motor mount bracket. optional parts include: manual ecu, clutch neutral safety switch, clutch start switch. it also requires cutting a counterweight off the frame to make room for the shifter linkage. i cant say for sure about the audi, but i bet the list would be similar.
with all that said, i made sure to buy a 5 speed A4 lol

Seems like we all agree!
I also wanted to change my Acura from Auto to a manual, but after discovering that it would be pricey I didn't do it, I ended up selling the car and buying an Audi manual.
So I think, you better trade it, sell it or love it the way it is.;-)

I guess learnin to love tip is how its going to have to be for now.... but how many horses/foot pounds of torque can the auto hold?? I think ive heard around 300 torque but can i mod the tip to take more??? Will any versions of the tip chip raise that number...??
It is somewhere around 300tq. But its a good idea to get the level10 upgrade if you choose to go that high
Yes the cranks are differnt. Plus we are talking about cars where finding parts and paying for them is a little harder. If this was a 93 civic hatch i would say do it. We all know how easy it is to find parts for those and since they are so abundant they are rather cheap

and cincyTT: I agree completely. if you notice, i said "considering audi parts cost way more than nissan parts...". parts for my altima are very cheap and easy to find just like you said, otherwise i probably would never have bothered.
