Default b5 raised from the dead

so i wasnt shopping for a audi the day i went out to purchace my car. after going through several used car dealerships i came across a beautifull 99 a4 1.8t tip with 149k on it... the dealer told me that the transmition had to be replaced and was going to be choped and sold piece by piece because no one wanted to bother to repair it.... the car is basicly mint on the outside with only minor cosmetic flaws. having about 10k to spend i threw him a 1000 dollar low ball for the car just as a shot in the dark.... ok he said
next thing i know my new cars on the back of a truck headed for my local auto shop these guys are nice but seem kinda sketchy
so heres my repair status please help me if some of these prices seem wrong
or too high.

used automatic transmition/labor $5,000

new transmition lines $500

new turn signal switches $397

new gas tank sensor $75

saving a friend from a slow and painfull trip to the junk yard..... priceless

not sure on the prices, but good find. might as well throw in a 2.8 manual tranny instead

5,000 seems kinda high for a transmission.. especially a USED one.. i'd suggest get one off ebay and have it rebuilt and you'd save a TON

you could easily install the tranny on your own....take the car to your house...and get under it...it is nowhere near as hard as you may think...it is just time consuming...

for the $ you are looking to spend you can buy a lower mile better running/looking audi...

honestly, fix it yourself or part it out...

if you part it out, you will get more then double the $1k you origionaly spent on it so thats not a bad choice. if you already have the transmission then you might as well put it in. $1300 for labor may be in your budget right now, but in the future when something breaks and your looking at a $1000+ repair bill, you will make time and room in your driveway to start doing some of this stuff yourself. auto trans install may not be the best place to start though. and yes the fluid is expensive. also skip the K&N.

huh...well, I would say that your best bet is to put this car up on craigslist...

for the $ you are going to be spending on repairs and such you can find a much better audi...

ok that tranny costs way too much. labor is about right though. turn signal switch sounds about right but you can do that yourself easily. gas tank sensor is right also. see if you can find a used switch though. and your tranny bill alone should not be more than 3000. you're being ripped off man
