Default B5 for rally cross???

ok this is a long one. I am looking on buying a B5 audi quattro from my frined for 500$(needs new engine, tranny is new) for rally cross. so i have several questions regarding the vehicle as i know very little about it.
1. how is the AWD system in these A4, would it be good for the rally?
2. the tranny is the auto with the shift-tronic, will this hold up and do well around the track or should i consider changing it.
3. the engine is trashed (cracked), it originally came with the 2.8 liter 6. ilke like the idea of the 1.8t or 2.0t alittle better. how do these engines compare and how hard would it be to drop it in to replace the 2.8
4. cant think of any other questions

Audi Quattro is the dogs ***** in the world of AWD. That's why its been banned from so many racing circuits

Pretty sure you're gonna need the same engine to match the tranny, dont know if you've thought of this

yeah i have read a few threads on here about people wanting to swap to 1.8s and 2.0s with blown motors and such, but with the amount of work and money you will have to do its not close to worth it, new motor mounts, installing new wiring harness new ecu, manifold for the turbo. just buy a cheap 1.8 lol

For real, 1.8t's can be had for 3k, and if you plan on rallying it, you could find one cheaper with a **** interior or something like that.

The dogs *****. Couldn't have said it better myself.
