Default B7 aero wipers on a B5

Hey guys,

I thought some of you might want to fit these to your B5. The B7 wiper arms don't actually fit the B5 because the holes on the wiper arms are too large.

I didn't bother to check and bought wiper arms and blades for my B5 and after removing my stock wiper arms, relized they didn't fit.

I wasn't going to be defeated by this and really wanted those B7 aero wipers on my car. Every couple of months, I've been replacing my stock blades with genuine one's because they just didn't seem to last long. We have really hot weather here and thunderstorms, so wipers take a beating.

I found some plumbing ferrals that had an outside diameter of 13mm and an inside diameter of 10mm and decided to use this raw material as my "shims". As it turned out, my sprockets on my wiper motor were approximately 11mm, so I took an 11mm drill bit and drilled the inner part of the plumbing ferrals out for a snug fit. The ferrals were too long, so I cut them to a length of around 20mm.

Then I took a small file and filed the inner part of the holes on the new B7 wiper arms to create a rough edge and squeezed super glue onto the outside of the ferrals before slotting them into the new B7 wiper arms.

I had to do this one at a time, because I wanted to bolt each wiper arm onto the car while the glue was still wet and let it set once the ferrals/shims could sink into my car's sprocket grooves ensuring a nice secure fit.

After tightening them real tight, I immediately tested them by pulling the wiper lever toward me to spray the windshield with the sprayer and they swiped the windshield without touching each other or leaving any streaks. They are amazing!

Now having gone through all that trouble, I've since realized an easier way of "shimming" these wiper arms to fit a B5 would be to buy some automotive rubber hose about 11mm in diameter (inside or outside), cut them to a length of 18mm and place them into the new wiper arm hole and bolt them right on - so if you would like to do this to your B5, that would be an easier route to go.

Just a footnote: you can re-use your older nuts that came off your car's wiper sprockets as well as your old bolt caps to cover the bolts.
