Default bad coil pack???

So I was driving back from up north for christmas the other day. And I was coming down the highway, and my car burped. I then pulled over, checked it out and saw nothing out of the ordinary. I then pulled over to check everything out again. and saw nothing well as soon as I drove down the road it was running pretty rough burping here and there. Then As I was pulling into a gas station, It backfired one good time. Right away it started to tick. I turned it off and parked the car. I had it towed to my house and here it sits. What could be the problem. I tend to think of worse case Scenarios, So i'm thinking the timing belt snapped. But Everyone else seems to be telling me that it sounds like a bad Coil pack. I will check the coils as soon as I get my tools back from a buddy tonight. But the weird part about it is. Right before I started to get the tick. The turbo seemed to be working better, and was giving it more power. Maybe the light at the end of the tunnel??? but lemme know what you think

Thanks in advance

a coil pack is pretty easy to tell. my car sounded like a motorcycle when i was runnin on 3 cylinders. it turned out to bet the ICM, but a coilpack would do the same thing.

do you know how to test the coil packs and everything? ive done it a few times so i can help if you need it.

No, if you could help that would be awesome. I've still gota get my tools back from my friend. He's going to bring em to work tonight. But... I was talking to a guy tonight, and he said even if it is a coil pack it wouldn't cause the motor to make any extra noise... think he's right??? Kinda hoping it stops at the coil haha. Be a lot cheaper. But anyways get at me when u can.

Ya, bad coils wont cause a tick. Thats def something else. I doubt your timing belt snapped how many miles do you have on the car?

Where is the tick coming from?

to test it its simple. u just turn the car on, then start unplugging coilpacks one at a time. if it gets worse, then that coil pack is good so plug it back in. if nothing changes, thats your bad coilpack.

its deff. not the timing, cause the car would run like complete ****, and the turbo would NOT be working better.

the tick could be from a few things. it really depends how loud/fast it is. i would try replacing a bad coilpack if you have one then try to figure out the ticking.

see that's the weird part. It had more power for the last five mins haha. I mean I didn't take it to the limits but I could def feel a difference. And it's a real light Tick noise. I've yet to have time to take a look at it. But the faster the car idles the faster the tick gets. I'm thinking it's a bad valve, But cant seem to figure out what would cause it. I mean the oil change was coming due but who knows. I'll check the coils and let you know

almost all audis and vw's tick. you may just be overreacting. but an oil change cant hurt.

oh no, I know it has just a normal tick, the Real light tick (which really worried me at first) but this is def an engine issue, something is touching. I have a few days off coming up, So i'm going to dig into it. I have to order my Timing belt kit here quick anyways, so i'm going to change that and see what's going on.
