Default Bad Injectors???

This is what has happened, after around 150 km driving on the freeway, we decide to take a break and go get something to eat. We get into the car ready to leave, after about 20 seconds we smell fuel in the car, quite strong as well, another thing, when cruising at 100kmh in 5th and I decide to floor it, the power cuts out, the car shakes back and forth. The fuel smell seems to be strongest round the right rear tire for some reason, I've done some research and a lot points to bad injectors.

sounds like you have a fuel leak. it could be around the injectors. but you should check it out under the hood. or it could possibly be a bad fuel pressure regulator. im doubting its the injectors themselves but possible

+1 redline.. If the diaphragm in the regulator ruptures you will suck gas through the vac tube.. It will also screw your fuel pressure to the fuel rails

Thanks for the responses, I have just read an article stating that the FPR is built into the fuel filter? I plan on doing an oil change today, will also replace the fuel filter and go from their.

Fuel pressure regulator is not built into the fuel filter. It is on the fuel rail. If you are smelling it around the right rear tire, that is where the fuel filter is.

Fuel filter is a pretty easy job, just tedious because of the stupid strap they used to fasten the filter to the tank. Also easier if you do it with an empty or almost-empty gas tank. I almost dropped a nut trying to lift my full gas tank back up against the subframe to tighten the straps when I was finished.

For reference, the FPR will be to the right of the valve cover if you're standing at the front of the car facing the engine. It sits on the fuel rail and is secured with a small metal clip. In this picture, it's just left of the big yellow circle. That circle is where a vac line connects to the FPR from the intake mani

Thanks for that CCA4, I took the car to a friend and located the FPR.

P.S
I mentioned that the car power cuts out when spooling it in 5th gear at 100kmh however if you drive the car normally and change gear at 4-5k or even past redline the car runs fine, boost and all seems fine, no power cuts. So to be clear the car only cuts out when spooling at high gears at low speeds. I realized this last night when testing the car a little.

Did you replace the fuel pressure regulator yet? The fuel pressure regulator works by lowering the fuel pressure when the engine is under vacuum and raising the fuel pressure under boost. if the diaphragm is broken then it isn't giving your injectors the correct fuel pressure.
