Sounds like the turbo is toast. The turbine should not be wobbling. Leaving it in the car will likely lead to a nice big boom which could eat your motor.

May either be a dud, or it did not have an adequate oil supply. If it is under warranty, get it replaced now. Before installing the next new one, be sure to inspect the oil feed lines, as the #1 reason for early turbo failure is lack of lubrication due to bad or clogged lines. Also, be sure not to shut off the car immediately after a hard run...drive it for a few minutes easily, or let it idle down and cool off. Glowing hot turbo + switching off immediately will cook the oil in the turbo and cause premature failure.

Cheers,

Steve

mrhurst, check www.google.com, I hear that's a fantastic source for everything you could possibly need.

sorry but he has a point. a quick use of the search function would turn up quite a few k04 threads and 'my turbo exploded' threads. a new k04 runs about $750 from most web sites. search for "turbo shaft play" that will give you some more info on what happened. there are turbo rebuild kits available but sometimes if you damage it too much (bent shaft) theres no repairing it. you also want it balanced after doing the repair, which is not something you can do youself.
