Behold! The Power of the 12v!
So Friday I drove from the Git 'n Go at the corner of 42nd St. and University Ave. in Des Moines, IA to The Underground Lounge at the corner of Clark St. and W. Newport Ave. in Chicago, IL. According to my trip odometer, that's 368 miles. According to my fuel gauge, that left me with a little over a quarter of a tank. According to my Owner's Manual, I have a 15.4 Gallon fuel tank. Based on guestimating the position of my fuel gauge at about 28% full (meaning I used 11.083 gallons), that comes to about 33.2mpg.
From a V6 with over 136,000 miles on it.
Also, I had my rear seat in place; and had my subwoofer hooked up in the trunk, along with a box of T-shirts and some stage lights, and a duffel bag full of necessities for the weekend.
All I did to prepare was change the oil and fill the gas tank and PS fluid reservoir before I left, and it probably helped that I wasn't running the AC. Other than that, I just kicked back and set the cruise control to the speed limit all the way along I-80. By the way, I-80 is much prettier in Illinois than it is in Iowa - in Iowa it's all straight stretches surrounded by corn and beans as far as the eye can see; but in Illinois, it's more curvy and there are a lot more trees.
Anyway, just thought I'd share because it reminded me why I love my car so much!
PS: I have to say, if my 12v 2.8 could do this with a full interior and cargo, then I have no doubt that CLX's claims of 40+ mpg over a couple thousand miles with a stripped interior and little/no cargo in a 1.8T are probably accurate.

^^ True. When I filled it up Saturday before leaving for Cedar Rapids, it took 12.057 gallons with the trip odo at 376, which comes to 31.185 - but that was after driving around in Chicago a little bit, thus why it went down. But still not too shabby
