Default Bigger wheels?

Hey guys,

I just bought a 2001 B5 2.8 Quattro and I'm loving the car. I'm thinking about putting in new, bigger wheels on my car, and then lowering it of course.

This has to sound super stupid and noobish, but forgive me.

I am looking into my wheel well and there are links that look like top control arms on the top of my front wheels (looks like its connected to my steering), and there's bars on top of my back wheels. I'm imagining putting a set of 18's with tires on there and just seeing the wheel rubbing up against the links in the fronts and bars in the back. I'm imagining that putting coliovers wouldn't really help that.

I think i'm being stupid and there's gotta be a way around it but I haven't seen anything on the forums.

You are somehow correct. This is why you have to get the offset and tire sizes that will fit.

18's will clear the upper control arms. If anything you may have to roll your fenders, but idk for sure. You may have to take into account tire profile I think.

You're talking about the spindles, and as long as you don't get dumb offset and high profile tires, you will be fine. As for dropping the car, you can go pretty low before rolling the fenders but again offset is key here. There's a thread about what offset sizes work and what don't, look around a lil or else I'm sure someone will link it.

Cool thanks for the help guys.

This is something that's gonna take some planning and saving up for. I was looking a what everyone else is running and I'm thinking 18x7.5 or 8 looks like a good number with 40 on the tires.

Now to go source for rims.

I'm running 18x8s with 225/45 kuhmo ecstas and they seem to fit just fine with no rubbing. But I see what you are talking about with it being close. I'm pretty sure my offset is 45.

@audiguru

is your ride lowered? Does lowering make a difference?

From his sig picture, I'm guessing he is not lowered.

Lowering makes a huge difference. This is when you'll need more calculations. Basically if the offset is too high, there's a chance you'll be hitting the arms and everything else within the inside of the fenders - if the offset if too low, you'll be rubbing against the fenders.
