boost question
hey im pretty new to the forum and to audis as well. i was wonder what stock boost should be. i thought it was 6psi but when i installed a boost gauge i notice that when i punch it, it gets up to 10 psi and its not chipped. i was wonder if thats normal or is there somthing wrong. everything is still stock on the car so i dont no. could it be a leak or somthing that allowing more boost in?
could be your boost gauge thats bad, there are 2 kinds of ko3 turbos. the ko3 and the ko3 sport. the sport ko3 has a bigger exhaust housing (more boost) are you positive that your car is not chipped did you look in the computer? you can call corp. and find out what dealerthe carcame from. call them and ask for the service records or any thing they can tell you about the car.they might be able to help
not to jack this thread or anything.. but im a stock 99 1.8t 5speed.. and like in 3rd or 4th gear when i get on it.. it rises up above 5 up to around 8psi or so.. will hold there til i let off the gas... it doesnt shoot up there or anything its more of a gradual increase.. just wanted to make sure thats how the boost curves in a stock 1.8t..
in a b5 1.8t the stock boost is 7-8psi on a non chipped ko3 you will have full boost around 2600 rpms and it will hold 8-9psi to about 5500 rpms.
if you have a chip and cant get above 10 psi the problem is your stock diverter valve cant hold the pressure and needs an upgrade.

with mine if im in like 3rd and around 2k rpm and i step on it will spike at like 10 or 11 then hold at like 9 till aroud 5k rpm...some said about the ko3 sport would make more boost...im guess that since mine is an a4 sport i have the ko3 sport turbo..correct me if im wrong
