Question Bored at work question about camshafts

im here at work being bored and was looking around on the net for some new performance parts for my audi since im not driving it right now and figured it would be a good time to do some more upgrading.

I found 2 different camshafts sets Here
http://www.mjmautohaus.com/catalog/i...6188_6726_9174

and i was curious that since i need to do my cam shaft tensionor soon that it would be a great time to change cams if they will do anything useful for me

Right now i have a ko3-s, a fmic, abd big bore intake, forge dv, high flow fuel rail, and a high flow exhaust manifold.

im looking to get a gt28rs elimitor kit soon. but not for a couple of months

So will these cams or changeing my cams shafts do anything for my set up?

they make your idle shittier. if you want to spend a few hundred bucks to do that, you can do it much easier by unplugging a vac line. and that way is free. but why would you do that?

your not going to see any benifit in new cams unless you have extensive headwork done and are running a much bigger turbo. the stock head flows fine for a k03 or elim. the place where cams become usefull is the upper RPM range where you need some more lift or duration to get more air thru the valves, but the upper end power is at the sacrifice of your nice smooth idle. and with a stock engine you can only rev to like 7200 before it gets dangerous. cat cams are the way to go if you were to get some, they seem to cause the least amount of idle problems for people.

A mild set of a cams, something in the 250-260 range.

Are you planning on building your bottom end?

here's the bottom line, if you're going to be going BT with a full build, get a set of camshafts to go with it. i'd talk to mike if you're going to be doing a full build. he can price out almost anything and give you much better recommendations than many people can because he's extremely experienced with the 1.8 and if you want to get technical the 2.0 bored also lol.

just putting in the camshafts will throw things out of balance. it's not a good idea with you're current setup

Well you want to match the cams to the power band of the turbo that you will be using. A elim or GT28rs/71 will have a power band in the 3500-7k rpm range, so you will want a set of cams that will allow you to get the most power out of that rpm range. A mild 250-260 cam set will work best for that setup. If you go with cams that are too big you will not get the most power out of it. The stock cams dont allow for as much air flow in the mid-high rpm range like a set of mild cams.

So Revolvers, Schricks or a set of 3651 CAT cams will work very well for a BT setup. I actually run the 252/260 Schricks in my car, but will most likely upgrade to something much larger for my next turbo setup since I will be looking to make 700whp.

I think most of the B5 guys that are running CAT cams run the #3651 or a new set (#3658 IIRC) that uses a 267 cam from #3652 and 262 cam from #3651.

As for the link posted by the the OP, I would stay away from anything "eurospec".
