ok so i have done a little research and i understand a little about this bose "premium" sound system in these audi's... i know that the speakers suck they only cost $40 each (have read many times it is NOT worth the $40)
and also i am missing the bose amp that should be in the trunk that emits the amps considering the bose stero head does not put out any amps i have no radio... now i do also have the 6 cd changer in my trunk that i find nifty considering it is a 99 and still some 2011 cars can only hold 1 cd.
i also understand any other speaker with the weird bose head will cause a funny sound in all the soeakers...SO!!!

My delimma is do hunt and search for a bose amp try to figure out how to install it in my car and buy all new speakers... sigh* .... and reinstall all the speakers.. ooooor do i get a normal radio or maybe a screen install it with maybe like pioneer speakers or maybe alpine? im just torn between getting rid of the oem..ness of the car casue i feel my car will be more likely to be broken into if someone walks by and sees an 9' inch screen in my car.

****now jeremy if you read this i know you have a screen so you wanna let me know how that is for you.. and how or if its annoying it blocks your fog light buttons and hazards?

 

Don't bother spending the time or money to put the Bose Amp back in... just go aftermarket. The Bose Amp and speakers will make it a pain in the As* if you deside later down the road to get a new HU... or "sreen"

 

Are you even sure you HAVE Bose? Not all B5's have a Bose system, it would say BOSE on all your speaker grilles if you were equipped with it.

 

im 100% says bose all oer the speakers covers on the door panels and the radio head and i have the origanal window sticker for my car =]=]=]=]
he paid extra for that "premiuim" sound system.

it just is missing the amp from the trunk its spose to be mounted like in the trunk under the rear shelf right ?? like

i have checked on the left side where the 6 cd changer is installed there are all kinds of random wires there connected to nothing im assuming for the amp maybe. but it is no where to be found.

 

The AMP is mounted in different areas on the B5 depending on year. Sometimes its behind the carpet panel on either the right or left side. If you had no AMP, the stereo wouldn't even work.

 

i mean all it does is just turn on.. doesnt have sound for anything....but you're saying with no amp it shouldnt even turn on?? so then you're suggesting maybe just all my speakers are blown??

or maybe a fuse?!?!

 

did you just buy this car? or did the stereo just stop working?

 

I bought the car not running.. rebuilt it within a month and have been driving it for about 2 months now i have been busy taking care of other things on the car before i worried about the radio. and also i gave my wallet a break for awhile. the radio hasnt worked since i got it but it worked when the original owner had it?.... but he had subs in it and i dont want all that in my car. but he took them out when he sold the car to me so i always assumed he accidently took the bose amp too or something.

 

No it would turn on, but there wouldn't be any sound, so it does look like you have no amp. But have you found the harness to it at least?

 

uuumm i cant say i have for sure found it is it like a normal vw/audi harness maybe one that looks similuar to what goes to the back of the radio head??

like i said i found a bunch of wires tucked behind the tool box kit for the spare and the 6 cd changer... but i guess its an actual connector and not random wires.
