Default Cali cat converter help

I know this sounds stupid, but is a high flow cat another term for a car with an exhaust that still has a catylic convertor, only better performing?

For the real question, I have had no luck finding an exhaust that will still have the catylic convertor to pass Cali emmissions. I'd move to a state that didn't have the damn requirement for it, but a student just doesn't have the income.

I know this has been asked a dozen dozen times, but unless my assumption in my first question is right, I have that kind of bad luck with the search of anything. I found what I thought was one, is it good?

dude, umm...alright

welcome to norcal!

first thing on the list is an exhaust system....buy a magnaflow cannister with a couple of nice 3" tips (should costya about 150$)

then take that to a muffler shop and have them run 2.5" piping from your stock catalytic converter back and have them weld on the magnaflow cannister should cost you about $200 said and done at any muffler shop...

so, for $350 you can have a full cat-back exhaust system and it will sounf amazing!

if you want a highflow cat, go for a LaBree HFC, they bolt right on, you will still pass smog (as long as it doesn't throw a code)

well, umm, definately don't buy any sort of kit, you can piece something together and save yourself alot of $

since you are in sca, you might want to look up your local GIAC dealer and get yourself chipped, alright, well....gl!

Thanks man, I'll try that out. Right now, I've been sort of putting together a list of upgrades to do to my car, in sets. Unfortunately, I don't have the money yet, but my first set probably gonna be:

GIAC chip (place right next to where I work, how sweet is that!)
DV upgrade
exhaust
turbo (Probably a K04)

Don't know if anything else should be thrown into that set yet for its "group," but after those, I'm gonna focus on brakes/suspension. I'm debating if I should throw in a short shift with clutch upgrade into it, or put it off for another set. I got 135k miles on my original clutch. So, to shift/clutch or not to shift/clutch, that is the question!???!

your first mod should be a boost/vaccum guage so that you can monitor the health of your turbo

then you should definately go GIAC/DV/and a set of BKR7E plugs gapped to .28
you may want to look into an N75 rave valve or an MBC as well, because the giac tune is a little on the agressive side and it is very spikey

then I would prolly skip to suspension

don't worry about your stock breaks until you are gunna go w a bigger turbo, you can look into the A8 break upgrade

besides that, exhaust is almost at the end of my list, it doesn't give you a big power increase, maybe 5-7bhp (I don't like the idea of being slow and loud...lol)

you should look into lowering your iat's a bit, you might wand to go for a godspeed custom fmic (front mount intercooler) plus they look amazing

besides that, some people get a tip (turbo inlet pipe) the stock one flexes when boost is increades and can restrict intake airflow

alright, well, one thing at a time, you will definately love the chip!....I am pretty sure you have the 170hp motor, which means you are already running a a K03s, which is almost the equivalent of a K04, so it wont make any sense to upgrade to a ko4....besides that I am pretty sure the GIAC tune will only bump your hp by 30

gl!

Thanks for all the info, will really help me when I start working on my car. I probably won't do a bt upgrade on my car or the intercooler on this car. By the time I do the first set and suspension upgrades, I'd have the car paid off, and probably give it to my brother once he gets his license. So only enough work on it to put it over 200 hp. I'd later get another b5, black on black, so I don't have to worry about the increased amount of getting the colors to flow. I'm trying to go with a strong night rider car. All blacked out with lots of power.

Again, thanks for the help.

if you do want to run a high flow cat or no cat there is a way not to have a code pop up. i did it to my 2.8 and worked fine i took the idea from running test pipes on 1.8ts. it just involves spark plug fowlers $2 each at any parts store. here is the write up http://forums.audiworld.com/a4/msgs/2511177.phtml

It's on it's second belt, but I'm not sure when. So I am going to assume the worst and say that if the belt was changed at 70k, I should change it at 140k. So I have just under 5k left before I do that. Besides, by the time I get around to doing the upgrades, the timing belt will already have been changed.

Unfortunately, I haven't had time to get aquainted with my car properly, so I won't be doing it myself. Plus have no time. Gonna have to have a shop do it for me, one that specializes in audis or has someone good. The dealership is just freaking expensive, and I don't think GIAC does that sort of thing. So I got some more searching to do.[>:]
