Default Cam alignment off?

I am replacing the timing belt on my 2.8. When I went to put the cam locking tool on, I discovered that it didn't quite fit in both cam gears correctly. The crank is definitely in the correct position and is locked with the tool. The cams are also correctly oriented (larger washer holes towards each other). The passenger side cam is turned very slightly counter-clockwise from dead horizontal (from the washers perspective), preventing the tool from locking both sides together. Is it ok to move it into alignment with the other cam?

No do not disrupt the timing.

Any ways, is the fan clutch reverse threaded? I'm doin a timing belt on my 2.8 right now and am trying to get the fan clutch and pulley off.

I found that out, thanks.

Did you ever come to a solution for your problem?

Oh, and when you set the tension on the timing belt, you pull the pin and let the hyrdaulic arm loose and then preset the tensioner to 15NM with a torque wrench correct?

Just use the cam bar to crank over the cam so the bar fits on there, they sometimes move a little bit.

Agreed.. use the tool to align the cams, not the old belt

Thanks auditech and midniteoyl, thats what I thought. I also went ahead and pulled the valve covers and verified that the cams alignment marks are matched up and at TDC.
