I am looking at an 01 a4 2.8 6 cyl with 92K manual for about $6K. I was wondering if someone could decipher the vin to see what packages it has, etc..

you can carfax that **** but it costs a little.

and the ad is actually asking $7k. call and see if they have done any maintenance on it lately. like tensioners and pulleys. how is the interior and exterios condition?

 

you can't get that info from the VIN

Get the codes out of the trunk - they are next to the spare tire

 

yes, its listed for 7k, but I got the guy down to 6k. The interior is pretty nice however, the exterior has some scratches and dings which will need some work...

 

well [sm=smiley35.gif]if you lowered the price one grand might as well try and go a little lower and take that offer.

...MAINTENANCE... what has been done lately

 

two words... timing belt. when was it done and get reciepts. assume no reciepts = it wasnt done. its a $800-$1500 job depending on where you go. $350 if you do it yourself however.

yep, so im assuming the belts have not been replaced....

 

I would think that when they had the water pump done the tb would be done as well (as they are usually done together) but maybe not...
