I will try that route. I meant a better place to pump in the smoke than another that will show the leaks. thanks again

Check the ECU fuse, sounds stupid but that's what my problem was and even the dealer couldn't figure it out. replaced it and it hasn'thappened again.

Thanks. the fuse is with the rest of the fuses on the side of the dash, just a regular one.

Which fuse specifically? Sorry, but I'm in the same predicament and have been for almost a year. It had a chip when I got the car, but I'm pretty sure its an APR. I've replaced DV, done a leak test, ect. I've tried scanning for codes but my ecu wont interface with Vag-Com. The Ross-Tech software says the car isnt OBDII compatible.

Have you tried scanning with Vag-Com NOMIND?

Unfortunately, I could not find a fuse in the panel for the ECU. If anyone knows if there is an ECU fuse and what number it is for a 97 please let me know. I also checked every possible vacuum hose I could find with no luck. I am still getting 20 psi of vacuum at idle which is what I have always had. Also SVT Brian I have scanned several times with Vag-Com and have not had any codes or CEL. When my boost hits 5psi I here a different sound from the motor almost a growl type sound. Is this a normal sound for limp mode or no? Can you guys tell me if I install a Manual Boost Valve will this allow me to dial the boost back to 18psi and override the problem?

does your engine make a wierd sound or is it the turbo?

if the turbo has never been replaced, it may be toast

I have replaced the turbo and it makes the same sound so I dont think its the turbo. It almost sounds like something vibrating and holding the boost back. not sure and havent been able to figure it out.

I don't know which fuse for a 97', I would just check every one, also the relays under the dash. If you can hear a vibrating sound that's probably your wastegate shuttering to let out pressure. You should check the lines to that to make sure that they don't have any holes or cracks. Also check you DV hose too.

Yeah, I thought it could possibly be the wastgate making that noise as well. I am going to do a smoke test and pressurize the sustem to try to find another leak. I only saw the broken breather leaking when I did it before but it may have been such a big leak that none of the other hoses built up enough pressure to show up a leak
