LOL that is the best option to have. Comes standard on all of my cars.

MY old 96 could also start without the clutch in, so i think it could be quirk of the pre-facelift 5 spd

The 96 A4's did not come with the clutch switch that is used to keep it from starting without the clutch pushed in.

Maybe its for 12v engines then? Cuz I tried it on my '98 and it wouldn't start without the clutch.

starting in 1998 you need to push in the clutch to start the car, earlier years did not need to.

I kinda like that feature. Like Phil I don't leave my car in gear when I park it, unless I'm on a hill then I get paranoid lol. I found out about it like a week after I bought my car, also by accident. A buddy of mine had a Toyota Tacoma at the time that had a button on the dash board labeled "clutch override" or some such thing. If you held it in, the car would start w/o pushing the clutch in. He suggested that I try mine just for ***** and gigs.

Keep in mind that if one of your buddies drives the car and leaves it in gear it WILL try to start
