Default CEL Fault Code P0741

Had my Audi for almost 2 years and have had 17,000 miles problem free.....well today my Check Engine Light came on for the 1st time. I ran a diagnostic on it and the details are below

*EDIT - Forgot to mention, i have had no obvious symptoms, car feels normal.

Make: Audi
Model: A4
Engine Type: V6, 2.8L; DOHC 30V
Transmission: Automatic
Trim Level: 2.8 Quattro
Mileage: 150000ish

=== Stored Error Code(s) ===
Error Code: P0741

Freeze Frame Information:
1. DTC for which Freeze Frame was Stored - P0741.
2. Calculated LOAD Value - 55.69 %.
3. Engine Coolant Temp - 197.60 °F.
4. Engine RPM - 2,080.00 Rpm.
5. Vehicle Speed Sensor - 53.44 Mph.

I have been trolling forums for hours now and it seem like my 1st course of action should be to change ATF and filter

1. Am i correct?
2. Can i use Mobil 1 ATF? (says its G052-162-A2 compliant but everyone has their own opinion)
3. Any other input would be appreciated, preferably no scaremongering.

Thanks in advance

You can get more details about your codes at: http://wiki.ross-tech.com/wiki/index...5/P0741/001857

Definitely have someone check (and maybe change) your transmission fluid. You probably found this already - but here are the details on that code that I found at the above link.

17125/P0741/001857 - Torque Converter Clutch: Stuck OFF / No Power being transferred
Possible Causes
Automatic Transmission Fluid (ATF) Level not OK
Transmission Sealing faulty
Automatic Transmission Fluid (ATF) dirty
Torque Converter faulty or incorrect Torque Converter installed
Solenoid Valve 7 (N94)/Pressure Regulating Valve 4 (N218) faulty
Torque Converter Pressure Valve faulty
Valve for Torque Converter Clutch faulty
Torque Converter Lock-Up Clutch faulty/worn our
Possible Solutions
Check Automatic Transmission Fluid (ATF) Level
Check Transmission Sealing
Check Automatic Transmission Fluid (ATF)
Check Torque Converter
Check Solenoid Valve 7 (N94)/Pressure Regulating Valve 4 (N218)
Check Torque Converter Pressure Valve
Check Valve for Torque Converter Clutch
Check Torque Converter Lock-Up Clutch

Went to an independent Audi/VW specialist, he said that if its not low on tranny fluid it probably needs a torque converter. He didnt recommend changing the transmission fluid because the car is over 100,000 miles ....something about new fluid being much thinner and it might not work at all afterwards.

Anyone think he's talkin sh*t about changing fluid and just wants a couple grand from me or is he right?

I hate having to ask advice from people who are looking to take $$$$ from me.

Am i right in saying that to check the TCC solenoid will result in having to replace the filter and transmission fluid?

I want to check the solenoid and the harness for faults before i change the torque converter (or have my mechanic do it i should say). If the solenoid is faulty where can i buy a replacement bearing in mind i'm not giving Audi $200 for one.

I've been told the same thing by an audi mechanic before. I took my allroad in for a tranny service and he recommended not flushing the tranny but just adding fluid if needed. Got the same code yesterday while driving around, felt a little bit of a hesitation when I gave it gas so Im guessing its related to the code.

I had this code on my S and needed a new TC. Check the fluid and top off if needed, I've heard the same thing about the fluid causing issues if drained and refilled. Any clunks between shifts? Is it slow as hell? I had a clunk on a spirited pull one afternoon, then again the next day. After the second one it would not get anywhere close to boost and felt as if I was running a NA 4cyl.
