Central Lock Mech. compartment is flooding
In the corner of my trunk where the central lock mechanism is, I found at least 2-3 inches of water. This completely hosed my whole unit and will require replacing for the 2nd time for the same issue (The first time I figured it was a fluke water got in).
Is there an area of weather stripping that often fails? I haven't been able to locate the leak.
Also, since it never drains, it looks like I can break out a drill and put a few small holes in the bottom of the compartment. I get the feeling this is inadvisable though.
Thanks for the help!

It's been a while since I last messed with them but I believe the rear passenger sunroof drain hose runs through that compartment before leaving the car. That might be where your water is coming from. It should be a rubber hose about as big around as your finger.
I still have this issue, I ended up pulling a rubber grommet down there to let the water drain. I tried cleaning the sunroof drains, they were clean as a whistle. I tried replacing the tail light. Still having the issue so Ill give you a few free bumps.
Yes , sunroof drains are a common problem , especially if the car is parked outside. Open sunroof , poor small amounts of water on the outside edges in all 4corners & see if the water drains out the bottom of the car. It is a good idea to remove the drain plugs ales especially the one under the battery tray in the engine compartment.
When I went out to look at the compartment again (while I wait for the new locking pump mechanism to come in the mail) I noticed a hose was hanging down and it fit perfectly to a fitting that seems like it would drain water well. I'm not sure why I didn't see it before, or where that hose was hiding, but it's connected correctly now.
I also noticed two little rubber stoppers in the bottom to drain (something? presumably water).
Ill start by leaving the stoppers in and keeping the (drain?) hose connected to see if that fixes it. If not, I'll remove one or both of the stoppers and just elevate the central pump unit somehow so water can get underneath and drain out the hole. It's not a perfect plan but it will have to do.
