Default Cheap Mods

Hey guys,

I'm really short on money, and I was wondering what mods I could put into my '01 A4 that wouldn't break a college student's bank?

I bought it used a few months ago with 105k on it, and have fixed almost everything that needs fixing (Clutch/Flywheel, tune-up, wheels/tires)

I have looked at chips/exhaust but they seem too expensive.

I was wondering what I could put into my car for around 100-200 dollars that would give a noticeable increase in performance. I have the Sport Package so I my suspension more than sufficient.

First of, was the timing belt ever replaced? If not, your money should go towards that.

With that note, if you want performance gain, start looking at SpeedTuning chips. Many people have that particular chip here and pretty happy with it. They are fairly cheap compared to the other companies such as GIAC and/or APR.

Of course with a chip, you'll need to be looking at boost leaks and possibly replacing any hose/valve leaks with new parts plus a new DV since the stock wouldn't last too long with a chip.

What could you recommend for a boost gauge?

How much are they? Where can I get one? Are they easy to install? Where should I put it?

ECSTuning sells a complete kit for a couple hundred bucks. Common places to put them are in a pod on top of the steering column, or in one of the vents on the dash. They also make pods to replace the vent, or you could DIY and just cut a round hole in the vent, both are common. if you don't want to buy a kit, APR, GlowShift, AWE Tuning, and VDO are all very good and easy to get. I would also recommend getting a gauge that shows both boost and vacuum, this will make it easier to diagnose leaks, should you develop any.
