So, I went to get my windows tinted today and met a kid who owns an audi performance shop. He told me he can flash my ecu instead of using a giac chip for about $300. Any experience? Worth it?

I know APR has chips for pre 00' Audi's for $400 so maybe he can get a deal. Doesn't sound too far from the truth. Get a certified receipt from GIAC that the flash was downloaded to your VIN'd A4

 

And if its a mystery chip tell him its a deal if he provides a free dyno run to prove the hp gain

 

Mystery chip? He said that they just recently got the ability to flash the 97's? That was news to me. He seemed like a straight up dude though. Good idea with the dyno though I went on his webpage and there is a pic of a brand new dyno!

 

I'm pretty sure that flashing isn't an option for you...you'll have to have the chip soldered in.

 

Yah mystery chip as in a no-namer. Just a "flash". As far as I'm concerned they've always been able to flah 97 1.8t's

 

APR offered flashes for all 1.8's since they don't solder any software/hardware for their own products protection
