Default Climate Control In and Out

I just bought a 96 a4 quattro 2.8 and the climate control unit fades in and out. It seems that when it gets hot outside in the afternoon is when it cuts out but that could be coinsadense. Is this a common problem in this car or just mine? Any suggestions besides a good cleaning of the housing compartment and wires.

Never heard of that problem. Pull it and check the wiring, I guess.

It sounds like it's dieing, just the like the center LCD display on '00-'01 cars. Over time they like to dim, and weather can effect that.
If it's anything like the center display, the soldering points are too tiny to realistically solder, so you'd have to replace the unit.
