Default climate control won't turn off!

Okay, I just picked up a 2001 b5 a4 1.8t quattro from my landlord. It needs a few things here and there. I put in a new battery and proceeded to tinker with things in the cabin. On the right hand side of the climate control, theres an up arrow, a down arrow, and in between these, theres a square that looks like a picture of a vent. I pushed this and the center vents are now blowing at high power. I can't turn them off by pushing off, down on fan speed, etc. The only way I can turn them off is pulling the fuse. The button seemed to stick a little and the red light is still on. It came "unpressed", but the light is still on and I can't get anything else to work.....I NEED HELP WITH THIS! lol. Thanks in advance to anybody with some useful info.

If the button is still stuck a little bit then? You will not be able to change any modes till the button is unstuck. I recommend looking on www.audidiy.com for the write up on how to clean the controls. That should fix it.

it slowly came out earlier, and now it will come out, but it takes a lot of time and the light is still on. The rear defroster does the same thing!

there's a picture of a similar climate control and the style of button I'm referring to. Is that actually for the center vent?

I confirm sticky buttons. It's a well known problem , I assume from the beer holder right above that side of the controls. Drinking and driving is always dangerous, you never know when some a-hole will pull out in front of you causing you to spill your drink.

lol...yeh..i bet thats what it is now that you bring it up! I have some goo gone. Think spraying that would free it up? If i take it apart, that diy doesnt really explain how to do it for an 01. On the model they showed, it looks like you have to take off the trim bezel but doesnt specify how this comes off....
