Default Clock Spring question

So, I know I need to replace my clock spring. That's the crappy part. However, given how many people sell them these days, its not too hard to find one. The question I have is in regards to which one to buy. The dealer told me I need 1J0-959-654M, because my car is a 99 Sport Package 1.8T w/tiptronic. However, I've been led to believe that SOME of these are interchangeable. I know part number 653C won't work.

Anyone have any definite answer on this? I refuse to buy one for $460 from Audi/VW, when the same essential piece w/o tiptronic sells for a whopping $30-60 depending on where you buy it.

Thanks!

I would guess you need to find another with tip, there must be about 4 extra wires running to it for each of the plus minus buttons on the wheel. I would try to find one used if its that expensive, theres a few places you can try, search a&p audi on google and find a&p auto specialties.
