Clutch Issue
So i think my clutch is shut cause the car revs slip. Plus the car does not stall when in 4th and releasing the clutch. Do you think that if I change the gear oil in trany it will reduce the slippage?
are you aware of how a clutch works? i won't get into detail, but no, changing tranny fluid will not help a slipping clutch. a new clutch is needed.
however, when you say the car doesnt stall when dropping the clutch in 4th, do you mean from a standstill? if so, this would indicate serious clutch issues.

Ya the car does not stall, at standstill, when releasing the clutch all the way, without gas, in; 4th, 3rd, 2nd etc., gears. And I am not familiar with how the clutch works. The reason why I am asking because I changed the gear oil in an automatic Honda and it greatly reduced the slippage. Anyhow, would it slip if the fluid is low? Or, should I just disregard my theory that gear oil and slippage are somehow connected in manual transmisisons.
In a manual trans, the gear oil simply lubricates the gears and linkages inside the transmission case. The clutch is outside of the actual transmission inside the bell housing. Changing the gear oil wouldn't help clutch problems because its completely separate from where the oil lives, and needs to be dry in order to work.
A clutch is a series of friction discs and a pressure plate that control how much force from the flyhweel on the back of the motor is exerted on the transmission. When you push in the clutch pedal, the pressure plate moves away from the flywheel and the friction material stops making contact with the flywheel, so the gears in the transmission are no longer being driven by the motor. These are all wear items, and need to be replaced periodically. Sounds like you've either got a severely worn out clutch, a broken pressure plate, or some other clutch problem. I'd get it looked at ASAP and start saving for a new clutch.
