Default Compressor Won't Come On

Hey I have a little problem. My a/c compressor won't come on. I have plenty of pressure and no fuses are blown so would there be any other reasons that it wouldn't come on?

Welcome to the forum.

It could be lots of things, but you will need a real vagcom to check out the HVAC system. Check the VAGcom locator sticky to see if there is someone near you who will let you borrow theirs.

One easy cause is that the secondary electric radiator fan is not working. The motor tends to burn out and without it the AC often doesn't work. With the engine warm see if the electric fan is coming on when you turn on the AC.

If it doesn't, the fuse is located behind the drivers side lower dash near your knees. It is held in by 4 or so bolts and there is another fuse box there. The fuse for the fan is a big sucker 40 amp orange fuse.

thanks i've been looking around and it seems the common problem is the high pressure switch in these cars. i just bought the car a few weeks ago and i got it pretty cheap because the air isn't working. so all i have to do is bypass the switch ans see if the compressor comes on right?

Yeah high pres switch would cause that too, if u go to audiworld.com they have info on the diagnostic menu on it which shows u high and low pressure switches and stuff (u access it by holding recirc. and up) that should tell you.

yep it was the switch. just bypassed it with some copper wires lying around and the compressor came right on. there was cold air coming out of the center vents and floor vents, but the dash veants and the side vents were still kinda war. does it just need a charge or is there another problem do you think. i checked the pressure for the 134a and it seems to be ok.

If its cold some places and not others it could be blend doors. Its also possible that there really is too much pressure in the system which will make it run warm.
