Default Is the Concert radio amplified?

hey guys
i am installing my pioneer cd player in place of my factory concert stereo.
hopefully tuesday, BUT i am stopping on the way home from work tomorrow to pick up the install stuff.....
when i called on the phone to the place that has them, they asked me if the factory radio was amplified or not....im not sure, but they said it takes a different plug based on wether its amp'd or not....i know i could just buy both, then see which one it takes when i get the radio out, but id rather not have to make a trip back to the store just to return a wiring harness.....lol

so anyway, if anybody knows the answer to this question, please post up....thanks!

PS, will get install pics for everybody....cant wait to have cd player in dash.

Quite. At least my stock Bose Symphony system has a small amp. It should be in the trunk on the drivers side. It's mounted up top and if you have CD changer it'll be next to it. The CD changer should also be mounted up top in the trunk unless it's aftermarket and I think after a certain year on the B5's they started hiding them in the trunk wall.

wtf .......lol

i know the symphony is, but im not sure on teh concert.....my car never had the cd changer, BUT it did have the bracket for it, behind the trunk wall....
the only thing i found in the trunk is a 4x5x1 inch box mounted beside the drivers side speaker....but im pretty sure its just a hollow plastic box.....

hey funny results to my story.....
when i went in to the parts store to pick up the install pieces, i couldnt remember the part numbers...LOL...so i got both wiring harnesses, they told me i could bring back the one i dont need, so anyway, i get to my buddies house, so we can do the install, and when he pulls the radio out of the dash, he finds a few "cut" wiring harnesses....we determined one was for NAV, one for PHONE, and the last one WAS the harness to the amp.....BUT it was cut....
soooooo my car was amp'd but some knucklehead cut the effin wires to it, and never bothered to hook up the rear speakers afterwards. we got a closer look at the rear speakers and discovered they are alpine 140w units...pretty nice huh?
we wired them up, and got everything back in, and working, but the trim piece wouldt fit....
now when i bought the car, the trim around the radio/climatronic wasnt in the car. the dealer ordered a new one for me, they used MY VIN number, and when it came, the hole for the radio was fine, but the hole for the climatronic was too small, so i modded it with a dremel tool to fit, now when we put the plastic spacer piece in around the radio, it didnt work again....so i had to trim more off it...im at work now, but i will get pics up soon

anyway, due to the fact that the trim piece didnt fit, and my radio harnesses were cut, we figured that the whole center stack was replaced at some point...what say you guys?

I believe the Non-Bose has the little amp attached to the rear driver's side speaker.

Also I believe CD changer placement from pre-facelift to facelift has been relocated. The CD changer after facelift is located inside the hidden spot underneath the toolbox on the left side of the trunk.

Just clearing up some things eventhough it's too late. Good luck on your install!
