Default Coolant Issues? 1996 b5 audi a4 quattro 2.8 12 valve AFC motor

Ok so the car has sat for a while and i've just started driving it.

besides the fact that the coolant temp sensor might be bad, I have a few questions.

what is normal temp operation on the audi a4 quattro with the 2.8 12 valve? in the morning mine will stay on the Cold line and might raise up a bit, but in the evening when i go to leave work its cold then on the way home it goes up. the highest it has ever gotten was Half way on the gauge.

2. what are some signs of bad water pump? with the car running and coolant maxed out on the line, i can squeeze the coolant hose that feeds into the overflow tank almost like its not moving fast enough.

Im looking to buy parts for it and have a shop look at it. I know its gonna be expensive and i should go ahead and do the t-stat/water pump/ timing belt and other goodies while im at it.

pictures would be awesome of the temp at normal operation.

ok, yeah its been about 75 to 80 here the needle goes up halfway then drops around to that point.

its good that both coolant hoses are warm though right. that means coolant is flowing or should it be one hot and one cold?
