Hi everyone. Can somebody tell me approximative, how much cost to replace the timing belt & the complete kit(water pump, thermostat, tensyoners, etc.) on an Audi A4 1.8T ,automatic, year 2000. I live in Perth , WA, and the prices are high here for european cars. Thanks.

If you can get it done for $1,000 out the door I'd say you're doing pretty well. $1,200 is on the high end, $1,300 is probably too much. $1,400 is definitely too much. The shop I go to when I'm in over my head charges $125/hour.

Be aware the majority of that price is labor. If you have the time/ability to do the work yourself you'll save a ton of money.

My friend is a mechanic at the dealer. To say the least, he hooked me up with an entire new kit. Water pump, tensioner, pulley's, belt, everything.

250 for his time. 6 beers to quench his thirst.

Right, but since I don't have that option: what did the kit itself cost?

A timing belt kit from the dealer would probably cost at least $600.

I have this kit sitting in the garage waiting to go in for my 2001.5 1.8T:
Audi A4 Timing Belt - Audi A4 Timing Belt Kit - AWM
Might even start on it today!
